Echoes of Shadows and Whispers!

Shadows and whispers.
Are we leaving? No, we aren’t.

The loudest of tones,
A million groans,
They text me softly,
Yet demand wildly.

They are not from this world,
Nor of human bone,
And yet, I hear,
Perhaps a heart they bear.

They call me “Hey,”
They say, “Don’t pray,”
They claim they’ll leave
An empty food tray.

They tell me to make,
To bake, to prepare,
Only to take
With no regard to care.

They appear human,
But I doubt they’re men,
For they steal bread
And make the innocent shed,
Drops of their crimson thread.

They left, they say,
In ’47’s sway,
But even now, I hear,
They instill fear.

It feels as though they never left,
Like shadows ready to cheat, bereft.
But I trust the divine,
Whatever befalls, I believe,
They’ve left this time.
